Anti-poverty transfer programmes in developing countries

Transfer programmes form a key component of welfare policies across the developing world. IFS researchers have been actively engaged in the design and evaluation of transfer programmes, including both conditional and unconditional cash transfers, and asset transfer programmes across Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. IFS research has analysed the causal impacts of specific programmes, and used behavioural models grounded in economic theory to uncover underlying mechanisms and analyse alternative policies, thereby informing the optimal design and targeting of anti-poverty transfer programmes.
